I had the opportunity to attend a spiritual retreat designed for University chaplains several weeks ago. Much of the time was focused on our connection to Christ and abiding in Him. During the retreat I penned the following as a poetic response to Jesus’ words in John 15.

In the midst of the busy city Your voice whispers, “come away.”

Summoned back to the garden in the cool of the day.

I hear Your generous call but strong defenses resist.

In your great compassion Your relentlessness persists.

Amidst the fruitless hurry heed the invitation to abide.

Tender surface area being grafted into the Vine.

Soaking in the sap until it becomes one with mine.

Contentment in connection, finding rest as I reside.
