It is easy to submit letters to your congresspersons expressing your concerns to them. Through phone messages or emails you can urge them to support or oppose (or introduce) pieces of legislation that you feel are important and in the best interest of the American people. A simple internet search will get you the email address of your Representatives and Senators. It typically takes just a minute to fill in your information to their website, which ensures you live in their district or state. Then you can submit your message to them. The best advice is to be clear and concise and to state your main point up front, followed by support for your position. The following is an example of a letter that can be sent to legislators expressing concern over President Trump’s threats to Greenland.
Dear Senator (or Representative) __________,
I am writing to urge you to oppose President Trump’s attempts to violate the sovereign rights of other nations, especially Greenland. The President’s aggressive rhetoric and actions threaten to destabilize our region as well as undermine our vitally important alliances, especially NATO. The moves being made by the Trump administration are making things less safe for the American people, our military personnel, and our allies. The United States has been known throughout the world for its principles of liberty and justice for all. Under this administration, our reputation has quickly changed to the principles of greed and “might makes right.” This philosophy must be opposed.
The President must be held accountable for the careless use of his words and the misuse of his position and of the resources at his disposal.
Please do whatever is necessary to reign in the President and his administration as their actions are wreaking havoc on our alliances and our national security. As you do, perhaps we may restore the reputation of America as a nation that is a force for good in the world, known by the power of our influence, rather than the influence of our power.
Respectfully,
