The Lord is calling us
By Mark A. Vincenti

What is it that you are calling us to?
Something ancient, yet something new.
Radically jolting, yet refreshing too.
Laying down earth connections
And drawing hearts to You.
We’ve been stuck like glue to the world’s web.
Spun by the 8-legged prowler
Seeking those whom he would devour
But this is the hour of salvation
Forgive our hesitation
As you cut the cords.
We’ve been attached to cancer
Casting our lot with stuff that blinds us to the answer
That you give.
You breathe into us so that we can live
With lungs full of life’s sweetness
Laying down all else to experience completeness.
Ah, but we’re afraid
To lay down these connections we’ve made.
To undo the path we’ve laid.
To walk away from the roads that we’ve paved.
The days are evil
And we’re experiencing upheaval.
You’re pointing out the plastic lives we’ve been all about
And calling us to what is real.
Suffering while growing closer to the Most High
Is superior to the soporific successes we’ve abided by.
And so now, we wrestle as you take bolt cutters
To the heavy chains we’ve chosen to adorn.
You call with words of love and words of warning
We’ve been enamored with things that will soon rust
Enough is enough. But you’re not through with us.
And so, through discomfort and fear, you draw us near
That we might hear
Your voice and move into reality.
The beauty of deeper things
Life lived with you and for your glory.
Full participation in the Story of all stories.
Complete surrender so that you can keep on forming.
And involve us in process of all that you’re restoring.
So turn our faces and direct our eyes.
Shift our gaze and realign our lives.
Change us, Lord and change us soon,
So that as we emerge from this cocoon
We will be ready to fly
Unencumbered by idols and lies.
And all the schemes the enemy devised.
And we will rise as we lift praise to the Holy One.
And fix our eyes on Messiah, the risen Son
Filled with the Divine love of the Spirit
Lord, as You speak, may we hear it.
What is it that you are calling us to?
Something ancient, yet something new.
May we follow as you lead us out
And show us what true life is all about.
Amen.
