Lord, You are enough.
But where we are and what we have settled for is not enough.
Our emotions fail us.
The buzz of experience past has faded and now we long to feel.
It’s not enough for us to just show up.
It’s not enough for us to just sing songs.
It’s not enough for us to just open Your Word.
It’s not enough for us to just gather in small groups.
We need to engage.
We need to change.
We need to become enamored with You again!
We need passion and purity.
We need motivation and dedication to Your cause!
Oh Lord, I feel so dry.
And I fear we are becoming a colorless arctic desert,
A cold spiritual tundra devoid of life.
May it never be so.
Sun burn bright.
Blinding Light, restore our spiritual eye-sight.
Holy Spirit come like a blazing fire.
Wind, blow a growing flame like a forest conflagration.
Begin to consume us all one by one.
May wisps of fire land on our heads and envelop our hearts!
Holy Spirit, fall on us and brand us with the heat of Your love.
May our lives become like incense
Smoke rising on high
Fragrance flowing through the highways and byways of earth,
Drawing attention to You.
We don’t want a buzz;
We want to be consumed.
We want foreverness to invade our here-and-now experience
And to change everything.
What we have settled for is insufficient.
But Lord, You are enough.
Come, Lord Jesus, come.
